Yeah. And put smoking sections back on planes. It was always great getting the last row in non-smoking and having it come over my head.
Having lived through both eras, here is my perspective. “Always on” relates to accessibility- only a text or email away. And that can cause “extra work.” In the pre-internet or cell phone world, we could not always be reached, but we did have 24 hour message centers we were expected to check in with.
Nonetheless we worked 100+ hour weeks.
The big difference is that editing materials at the last minute, or rerunning analytics was a BIG deal. Therefore we were much more thoughtful about work plans and logic. Today people tend to rough it, or get close enough, figuring it can be redone later.
While technology has made it easier to do more faster, much of that efficiency made us sloppier.
Gen X and prior acting all uppity about cigarette smoke like their mothers weren’t all actively smoking a pack a day throughout their pregnancies is probably the funniest part of all of this.
I’m surely not the only one who refuses to go to bars with smoking, so I think the economic impact would be net neutral at best.
Ah, the 1990’s vibe with dense indoor smoke and washing out dark gray soot from your hair after a night out.

Turn into an entrepreneur & start cold calling bars locally to let you put in a nicotine alts & cigarettes vending machine in their bar.
Actually a crazy epiphany of a comment. I got a team of degenerates that’d help out with this.
Ok. So more lung cancer, more medical bills, sicker children and richer doctors and hospitals while some poor families get dragged down the medical bankruptcy path. How is that a better economy? Have you ever been raised in a family with a smoker adult?

They would lose a lot more money from the non-smokers boycotting that bar. Only like 10% of the population is smokers
