If you're only an assistant, you might have a harder time landing a 100k salary, but if you're an underwriter, 100k should be no problem in a HCOL area.
I'd think so. The harder part would be living on a $100k salary in a HCOL area. $100k sounds like a lot of money, but it won't get you very far in places like NYC or San Francisco.

$100K to $150K would be the average in a HCOL area. But beware that unless you move just outside the area, the prices itself will offset your salary. You should aim for higher than $100K to live comfortably or feel financially secure.
