I’m moving 1,400 miles six weeks from today. Hoping some normalcy is restored by then. Moving a 1-bedroom, so a uhaul trailer provides sufficient storage. Wife wants to use pods instead... (cont’d)

Looks like my car isn’t even capable of towing more than 1,500 lbs, so I think the trailer option is out. I’ve done the U-Haul truck with car in tow before, and do NOT want to do that again. Pods it is.

I just ordered a POD for my move. I don’t want to drive 17 hours in a uhaul. Luckily I have the money to afford the POD especially since I haven’t purchased a cocktail or a cup of coffee in 4 weeks.

I’d do Pods. We pulled a trailer once with a Toyota four runner and it was scary. Unless you do this kind of thing regularly I would not risk it. You have enough stress to deal right now. Find the saving elsewhere. Don’t cheap out so much on family that you put yourselves at risk.

like

100% agree. OP if you have never towed a trailer, now is not the time to do it. It’s much more dangerous than just driving a car itself. Driving 1,400 miles with a trailer is very risky. You’re going to be stressed the whole time. This is not the time to be cheap

like

Uhaul, even with the decreased gas mileage and therefore needing to fill up more you’ll still save. Do consider you’ll have to drive significantly slower though so it might also take you longer and parking with the trailer will be annoying. However if the difference is truly a couple grand, I’d say the uhaul hassle is worth it.

like

Are you getting relo? If this would just be eating into relo amount, and have the means I would consider it. Moves are already stressful enough, let alone cross-country. If you’re funding on your own dime in normal times I would say try to make a road trip out of it but don’t believe that will be possible. Perhaps PODs will also be safer, which is a consideration.

Literally just did this. DO NOT make the same mistakes I made. Here’s what I would do if I could go back in time: 1) use U-pack! It’s the cheapest and best way to do it. If you don’t wanna pack it yourself hire a local company. You only pay for the amount of space you take up. 2) do NOT use a moving company that does it all for you. It’s been two weeks today and we still don’t have our stuff. Apparently most movers are super sketchy, and they low ball you and then wreck you with crazy high fees last minute. They should be here tomorrow or Sunday, and I’m expecting they’ll charge us a crap ton more than we agreed to. I haul is NOT cheaper than u pack if you’re not gonna return the truck! And you won’t have to drive the dumb truck

like

... for the convenience, but they are soo expensive (couple grand vs few hundred for Uhaul trailer). What would y’all do in our shoes?

“Might as well”

Was planning to drive the uhaul?

Assuming you know how to drive with a trailer and have a vehicle that can realistically pull it that far, I say uhaul.

If you go for interview and you sort of know that the person interviewing you might be curious about something on your negative on your resume like why is there a gap or why were you in XX role for so long?

Do you address it pre-emptively? Or does that show insecurity and you leave the elephant in the room and wait till they ask you?

I guess this is more in the case of networking than interview like do you make your own story?
