I'm not necessarily unhappy with the firm I'm at, but have started looking into in house opportunities, as I've seen some interesting openings. I understand this will likely come with a pay cut (perhaps in exchange for a better work/life balance....tbd), but does anyone have any thoughts on other considerations/questions I should be thinking about/asking? Thanks all in advance!

You want to know if the position is a generalist as a business unit attorney or if they are organized as specialists (licensing here, customer contracts there). Do they have paralegals? Do you have someone senior in legal that will mentor you in the transition? What kind of work would you do? What would be your exposure level to the C-suite? What is your career path for promotions? What are the reputations of the biz people you will work most with/for? You have caltive clients so those relationships make all the difference.

likeuplifting

Captive clients means you cannot fire them and they are not done with you at the end of an engagement. You are stuck with them for better or worse so you gotta learn to like each other or your career could be impacted. I am sure there are better ways to describe it but hopefully that helps.

1. PwC AC is offshore counterpart of PwC US. Good salary. No travel opportunities. Average yearly hike ~10% Mostly technical work.
2 PwC India is a pure consulting firm. Salary better than PwC AC. client facing work. Can grow as a management consultant. Great Travel opportunities.

Additional Posts in Law Exit Opportunities

I’m a fifth year associate who is ready to get out of litigation (and private practice altogether). I’ve only ever done professional malpractice (legal, med mal, etc) and feel like those skills will not transfer as well if I had done transactional work.
