Personally, I do not believe in myth of the neck pour (first few ounces poured out of a new bottle being worse/harsher). A lot of things affect how much you enjoy a pour (what you’ve eaten, your mood, your expectations for opening a new bottle, whether it’s your first pour of the day, etc). Breaking bourbon also did a two year experiment on this and did not find a substantial change of whiskey being open over a two year period.
That being said, a lot of people believe that a bottle changes over time as you drink it due to the influence of air. So no, you’re not crazy.
Okay that is all very insane. I’m learning a bunch in this thread. Thank you
Are you drinking them consecutively? Cause usually you need to add water to your pour to open up the tasting notes a bit, or otherwise drink a few to kill the alcohol burn for you before you can really appreciate it

Your expectations adjust. Once you get used to a new flavor, you start to look for different things.
It's why I like to do flights so much. You get an immediate comparison without needing to "memorize" a flavor. The drawback is that it's made me too lazy to remember most afterwards though haha
Ha! I thought I was the only one with that issue 🙃🤣
Neck pours need some time to open up 🙂
