Anyone tried roasting their own coffee? Curious about if you found it worth it or not, and any tips you might have for someone looking to get started. Thanks!

I did for a few years, went from stove top in a pan to buying a production probat roaster and building a small business that I sold. I thought is was an incredibly rewarding experience and one you are in a perpetual state trying to tweak/improve/etc. Ensure you start with good beans (https://www.sweetmarias.com/) and a common mistake is to over roast which burns the coffee and pulls out the bitter oils. Coffee beans should be tan not black. Good luck and have fun!

An unintended consequence of the journey you are headed on, is you develop a palette for coffee so now that I don’t roast anymore, I spend far too much money on good coffee every week ;-)

And popcorn poppers are a great way to get started!

As in roasting coffee in your backyard? Please do some research on what the process is of roasting coffee from start to finish and what the required conditions are. I have a friend who has his own coffee shop and his own brand, and these guys have coffee farms all over the world. You either make this your profession or you enjoy your daily cup by purchasing it from them.

I wanted to clarify, I was talking about roasting beans in my kitchen, since there are a number of appliances made for that purpose.

I am not planning to grow my own, I was looking into buying green coffee and roasting my own. It seems to be pretty easy to get high-quality green coffee for good prices, and apparently it keeps a lot better than roasted coffee (so you waste less).

There are a lot of in-kitchen appliances to roast coffee, at a range of price points. Some with great reviews.

As in you’re growing your own beans then roasting them yourself? If so my friend did that and it was tough. Took them awhile to grow the beans (did not live in the right climate), peeling the beans was a pain, but roasting it was fun. Seemed fun as a project but not sure if sustainable in the long term due to the amount of time put in.

Not growing my own, just roasting my own...

No mate what?

Hot take, for those who received a stimulus based on FY19 or FY18 returns why doesn’t the government make people pay it back in the FY20 return if they don’t qualify based on the actual tax year stimulus was for? I understand why they couldn’t wait but IrS knows who received it so it isn’t hard to implement. Could have used the anticipated saving coming back to fund more stimulus for those who truly needed it.

2nd post on catching covid

I am lucky to have mild symptoms.

I do have 1 symptom which is troubling. I feel extreme anxiousness. I have trouble sitting still and trouble sleeping. I have trouble concentrating. The doctor says anxiety is a somewhat common symptom and that Cedars Sinai is studying the potential for long term impact.

Anyone else experience this? I have never felt this before. I have a huge new appreciation for those who suffer from anxiety on a regular basis in everyday life.
