I’m sad that I’m entering my last full week of break. I go back to work next Friday. Anyone else go back earlier than that? Why does it feel like the school year keeps starting earlier and earlier? When I was a kid, we always went back at the end of August.

Enjoy it!

2nd/3rd weeks of schools here in AZ.

When I was a kid, we went after labor day.

like

Wow!! That is so early! I would love to start after Labor Day!

I think, generally speaking, Northeast schools go back after Labor Day. Mine goes back on September 3rd and 4th for teachers, then kids on the 5th. but we also get out a bit later. For me, it was June 17th. Contact days is 180. Is it the same with you?

like

That makes sense that you get out later. We get out end of May typically, this year was May 24th. We have 185 contract days though!

like

I am going back earlier than that this year! But just a couple days, we start on Wednesday next week. Hard to believe how fast summer went, but I won’t go down that lane! We also get a fall, winter, and spring break and I believe we are out either very end of May or early June, need to double check.

like

I live for the breaks we get every season! It sounds like yours and my schedules are very similar. I like getting out at the end of May!

We went back last Friday, and students start this Thursday.

like

Thank you!

Yes. 180 days. 2 week fall, winter, and spring breaks.

We end last week of may!

I am in a super good position at Jellyfish as a Director with a good room in terms of growth. Great responsibilities, work life balance and I strongly love my job. However, there is an opportunity to join Google Dublin as an Agency Development Manager (level 4) with strong salary, new challenges, different role and responsibilities etc. I HAVE A STRONG DOUBT about a trade off: is better to have a strong margin of growth and a good position or join Google with the above conditions?

High school special class (self-contained) teachers: What do you use for planning? I’ve always been an inclusive teacher, so I followed the plan book of my co-teacher. I can’t even decide if I should go digital or paper-based let alone make a final decision! I’ll be teaching 9-11th grade math and 11th grade science. The 11th grade classes I can very much do whatever I (or the student) want/need…there isn’t a set curriculum

I feel like I'm at my wits end. I teach self-contained classes and according to the ISBE website my classes shouldn't be more than 8 students unless I have an aide - then it can be 10. I have no aide and most of my classes are around 14 kids. Some with behavior plans that are only out of our behavior room setting for my class... Is anybody else out there going through illegal class sizes for self-contained? How are you dealing? Maybe a vent session is in order.

I love my job in special education, the job may bring quite a bit of stress and exhaustion but nothing compares to the stress of the related service team. OT, PT, speech, BCBA, social worker, etc etc is really what’s killing me this year. It is 23 days into the school year and the team members all make different plans and as a result, nothing is being accomplished. And if paraprofessionals follow ie what OT says but not PT, it cause so much unnecessary conflict!
