Thanks for this. I always err on the more descriptive, the better. As a visual culture, it’s easy to reduce a person to their phenotypical representation. Context here is everything. So, no, not offensive on first blush, but be mindful that underrepresented peoples rarely have the same ‘privilege’ of referring to the majority by their phenotype as a distinction—unless they stand out in a particular environment (I.e, the white person in a room full of people of color or the man in a space predominantly of women).

Regarding the latter, it can be a bit reductive. Try to learn names but if that’s the most straightforward descriptive just go for it. -Asian woman

My natural instinct is to assume rejection if I have conflict with a partner or don’t think my feelings are reciprocated. I’ll try to bring it up with them, but I’ll say “if you want to end this feel free” so it doesn’t hurt me (and they can say what they really mean instead of sugarcoating). I’m new to the firm. My third project my manager was very hands off. He’s wants to have a discussion with me about my performance. He did not give me any support to work with; even when I asked! And my direct manager agrees with him, but it was my third week. What to do? I feel like I’m going to say something crazy. Any advice?

I have a direct report who is smart, passionate about her job and can be really innovative. However she carries this enormous weight of responsibility, for needing to do everything, do it right, make sure it's perfect, not trusting colleagues to help. It creates dread and panic and overwhelming workload and a terrible attitude for her and I am speaking with her this week to start to shift her mindset. Any tips in navigating how to let go of this heavy idea of "responsibility"?

We struggle as we find ourselves constantly reminding students to keep their masks on. We struggle to keep them engaged and to teach. One thing we do not struggle with- building connections and showing out love for each child.
