Thanks for this. I always err on the more descriptive, the better. As a visual culture, it’s easy to reduce a person to their phenotypical representation. Context here is everything. So, no, not offensive on first blush, but be mindful that underrepresented peoples rarely have the same ‘privilege’ of referring to the majority by their phenotype as a distinction—unless they stand out in a particular environment (I.e, the white person in a room full of people of color or the man in a space predominantly of women).
Regarding the latter, it can be a bit reductive. Try to learn names but if that’s the most straightforward descriptive just go for it. -Asian woman
