Downside is you have to wait for results. I took mine as close to the cutoff as I could so i didn’t wait long. That way, if I failed, I could take it again 3 weeks later. That said, I kept a VERY regimented study plan, so never pushed back the test day once scheduled. Ive seen a lot of people push back to the next test window because they weren’t ready, which is stupid.
With all the changes to the exam and score release times however, this may not be as applicable. Beginning of a window is fine, just make sure to start studying for the next one right after and take multiple in the same window if you can. There’s no right or wrong answer, just as long as you don’t wait for results without studying for another. I would also advise you never let a window pass without taking an exam. Even if you don’t feel ready, could get lucky. The worst thing you can do is let it pass without trying, because it cuts into the time you have left Best of luck
