I'm talking to my former employer about possibly coming back. It's been 2 years, and I've leveled up my skills significantly since then. What's the best way to negotiate salary without them defaulting to what I made before? I need to reset expectations, but I'm not sure how to approach it.

You shouldn't have to worry about them trying to pay what they were before. That was two years ago, and as mentioned, you've upskilled since then. More pertinent is the fact you left that job and pay to go to your current company. 9.9/10 times, that isn't done to accept a pay cut. They will - or should - know this and expect you to ask for more this time around. If their offer comes in at that same level, you point to the work you've done since then to justify asking for more. But I think you're putting the cart before the horse assuming that's what they're going to do.

I would not assume that they would just pay you what you made before. I mean, like you said, your skills have developed and you have two more years of experience. Come in with the confidence that you deserve more.

Explain what you’re currently making and ask for 5-10% more. That’s a fair ask

Hi, what kind of salary should I expect from London consultancies with 1 year experience as an Analyst at Accenture?

I’m working in analytics with some currently in Python and R, and some AWS exposure with the cloud fundamentals cert (which doesn’t mean much I know 😂) and would be looking for a similar data-focussed role.

If anyone knows of any open roles and would be happy to do a referral etc then please also let me know.

Thanks 😊

I’ve been approached my by company that one of our large clients (who im currently project managing for) is looking for a consultant of sorts, and if they hire us, I’d be the first person asked to take on this consultant role. This isn’t something my company typically offers and would greatly change the scope of my role. Has anyone ever taken on a role like this? If so, were you able to negotiate a percentage of the consulting fee? Or was it a bump in salary during the project?

Started a new job a year ago, high performer. My manager suggested a promotion to Product Manager since that‘s the work I’m doing, but that would be a 50% raise. Higher ups decided instead to make a “new role” (not PM), that has no analog in the company and is hard to price via Glassdoor, etc. I feel like this is to limit my promotion salary to something like 10% from where it currently is. Is there anything I can do? FWIW: I have a PhD from top 5 program and am working in that field. Thanks!

Hi all. I just received an offer for $130k and will be eligible for about 29,000 shares of stock options. The vesting schedule is 1 year and then quarterly thereafter.

Can someone explain what this means? I “will be eligible”. So, I have to buy the shares? Should I be asking at what price?

I’m interviewing with a startup and the range has a 40k difference from the lowest to highest point. It’s also pre-seed and comes with equity, and health, 401k benefits. It’s a director of sales role so I would eventually be recruiting and managing a team along with building the processes and strategy. What would you consider a fair compensation package? If they offer me something on the lower end of the range, is it still appropriate to counter with an offer that is over their stated range?
