My secret is strength finders. It assess strengths and weaknesses including different comms skills.
You do need to analyze properly. I’d use this as a long term tool to assess and place and promote.
Understanding the various ways of effectively communicating and what the role actually needs.
Most leaders don’t understand the barriers to success. You can have the skills but if the environment isn’t primed - no one will be successful.
Depends on the roles...
Developers are the easiest because all you have to do is ask about their opinions about commenting code, PR details and what they bring to the standups, how they present their demos, and whether they understand their audience are in their technical docs.
Client facing engineers - customer service questions, documentation, and how effective they are with receiving and raising escalations.
Presales - demos, stories and value propositions.
Consultants - all of the above, plus interactions with SEs, client relationship management, code switching and walking through cases.
I never recommend to my clients that they do what you've just done. We must always consider how this information is going to be received. Do you think they haven't heard this tactic before? Even if it is true for you it has not been true for many before you.
Companies are not going to rush their interviewing process just because you have another job offer. Asking them to do so doesn't look good for you. The only way I would ever have a client do this is if we are in the final round and we are waiting for an offer. And still I'm in easy with it. Do you want to work for this company or don't you? By doing this, you are causing the company to question your commitment to them.
Sometimes we have to trust that what is before us is the way to go. In other words, the second job offer just might be a gift. That possibility definitely needs to be considered. You might want to consider what your gut is telling you.
On the realistic side, we all know that companies will hire us and then let us go without any problem whatsoever. While I don't think that it is a good practice, I have had clients who excepted that second offer and then reneged it when the real offer they wanted came in. Sometimes, it is better to be safe. At the end of the day a company wants the candidate they are hiring to be all in. Candidates want the company to be all in as well.
