I’m thinking of growing my beard and hair out. My only hesitation is that I want to move into management at some point and I am not sure if it would effect my likelihood of being promoted.

As a hairstylist, beards are the thing right now. Just keep it clean, trimmed and lined up. Long full beards are popular. Long hair and a full long beard can be a little much.

As with anything dealing with personal appearance… just don’t look unkempt and you’ll be fine.

like

I don’t think it will. Beards are nice. Just keep it neat and I think you will be fine.

like

+1 to this. Just as long as your beard doesn't make you look like a caveman, you're fine. Keep the beard and get that promotion!

Statistically speaking, but still unfortunately, it depends on your race and beyond that on how long you actually intend on growing it.

like

I agree with the above! Beards are everywhere right now. Just look at stylish ways to wear both professionally and ,you shouldn't have a problem.

like

I think you're going ot be absolutely fine with the beard. Not sure about the hair but it can vary - I don't think people care as much as you think they do

Depends. Are you a woman?

I rock a beard, not at all the nicest looking beard, but ya. I am 100% respected and valued by all levels. It's how you carry it. You see me with a beard and might feel some type of way but let's grab that attention and go right into meeting me and what we can do.

Currently a staff in audit - 6 months in. Glad to be learning a lot, and have had a generally positive experience at the firm other than a few interactions, some tough busy season nights. Really been intrigued by TAS/M&A, however, and had a few convos with a senior in TAS i know at the firm. It’s closer to what I studied, but don’t know how to make the jump as it seems an internal transfer could take 6+months/senior rank and a lot of convincing. Is it better to jump firms/has anyone done this?
