It’s imposter syndrome… fake it till you make it thats what we are all doing
You won’t be fired even if you want, we are so understaffed
We all feel that
... up to and including very senior ranks, by the way.
In fact, I sometimes think that - from a certain point upwards - there are only two types of leaders in consulting: those who have learned to cope with their imposter syndrome and the ones that are dangerously over-confident.
ETA: there are exceptions, of course.
I've been in Big 4 consulting for 25 years and am waiting for someone to pull the curtain back and say, "between you and me, you don't know a f... thing. Am I right?" Hasnt happened yet. But there's always tomorrow
After you meet your project team , you will realize quickly they don’t know much more than you . You will be fine
I came from the business as well - what you’ll realise is that your functional knowledge is well grounded compared to the consultants you’re interacting with. All they/we do is talk, which is something you’ll pick up very soon. Other consulting skills which help look at things in a structured manner would be next, just be open to learning! So yeah it’s normal!
Are you me? 😅
