I'm unemployed and my lease is up soon and I have no idea what to do. I don't live near family and my dog has behavioral issues and I've never been so stressed before in my life.

That’s a lot of problems to deal with at once; your stress is valid.

Are you able to get a freelancing job, a cheaper apartment (or roommates/short term rental), or dip into any savings to stay afloat during this time?

Are there resources near you to assist with the dog’s behavioral issues? While training likely will cost money, perhaps there’s an interim solution to look into until things stabilize.

You’ll make it through. ✊

Thank youuuu, I've been working with a trainer for over a year but quarantine has definitely caused some regression 😕.

I'm considering all options for moving, but I just know it's going to be so hard on the pup. And unfortunately I don't know how I'd be able to have a roommate because of her. I've been living off my savings for a few months so I have a few months before I run out so hopefully some freelance or full-time work will show up soon 😔

You can try to negotiate with your landlord - go month to month if you aren’t ready to leave but don’t want to commit to a year. You may also be able to negotiate a lower rent. Life circumstances (like a global pandemic) can force us to make hard choices. I’ve been unemployed since March and am worried too. Start considering your safety net resources - family, friends, food pantry, public aid, nonprofits, etc to help where you need it.

What city are you in and are you copy or Art? Have you peeked at the job board bowl?

NYC, copy! I do check it frequently, I've gotten a lot of interviews (up to 34 now) but just no offers 🥴

Has anyone made the transition from non-profit and small firm practice to federal government, big law, in-house? I’m a special education parent attorney at a small firm and I’ve spent my legal career in the education and juvenile areas of the law working for 2 non-profits before ending up at the firm. However, I’m just exhausted, unmotivated, and and looking for a change. At this point (6.5 yrs of practice), is that type of transition even possible or am I stuck due to the practice area?

There’s no reason you have to put up with a job you hate. I spent many years working in a toxic environment with a boss who gossiped and lead through fear. He wasn’t really much of a leader but basically a foreman. And he could make my existence miserable. I admit that it wasn’t easy to find another job but the bottom line is: trust your guts. If you feel something is wrong it’s because it probably is. Don’t second guess yourself. Look for options and and fight for your mental health.
