It’s not likely that they will give you that high of a raise (more likely 15-25% increase) but you can always try by building yourself a good case for why you are worth it (business wins, how much you’ve earned the agency, etc.)
I think you could mention it but it shouldn’t be the crux of your case. Did you ever get paperwork stating that your raise would be that new amount last year? Unfortunately there are many promises made that never materialize into action and your agency might say that since it wasn’t official, it didn’t count.
Are you at a big holding company? I’ve never seen an internal promo higher than 25% at one of those. Your team doesn’t have full control of the amount they can give you, the holding company does.
Yeah, I am. Thank you, that's definitely great insight to have
No, but once you have the title you can absolutely get that much somewhere else. And you should, you’ve been pretty underpaid.
It might be tough internally unless you've got a competing offer. I've heard increasing between ~$10-20k if you are under a director level (much easier to make bigger jumps then).
5 years experience at 65k sounds really low to me. How long have you been in the role at this agency?
If you’re at a holding the only way to get what you want will be a competitive offer. I think getting to 80-85k by working with your manager will be a lot more achievable. But for NYC and 5 years this feels totally absurd and unless your agency is perfect for you please think about looking elsewhere.
Break it up into two parts. 10% bump for performance and a 20% bump for the promo.
Different agencies have different structures, but I know of people being offered low $100k from sup to AD. I think aiming for $80k-90k as senior strategist from $65k would be more achievable. That said, I agree with others that you're being under valued. With 5 years of experience at NYC agencies you should be closer to $100k than you are now. Good luck!
$105k in my experience is pretty firmly in the centre if not high depending on agency size and market for a senior strat. I agree with most people here saying internal promotions rarely come with this big of a leap. I’d be happy if I were you and I got to $90k
Your initial salary was too low, this is more make right
$65k seems very low. I was making $72k as a supe with 2-3years of industry experience. Moved to another agency for $85k (still a supe). $100k is a significant bump, even in NYC. I would shoot for a range rather than an exact amount
ALSO if you’re asking for an internal raise, then I highly doubt you’ll get that much of an increase. You’ll get a significant bump moving to another agency, but not sure if you’ll get what you’re asking for, especially in a pandemic.
