I currently live in Chicago and love that it's humble and affordable but still vibrant.
But i used to live in NY and it's incredible in so many ways. It's chic, cultured, and honest. Once you figure out how to navigate the city it's ultra convenience at your fingertips. For example if you get hangry, much easier to solve in NY than anywhere else - delivery is fast and a million places open 24 hours
Also, some things are extremely affordable (e.g., manicures)!
I like NYC for personal reasons. I'm the 3rd generation in my family with an NYC birth certificate and basically my entire family history for the last 100+ years is rooted here. Some places that transient New Yorkers take for granted have significance in my family history through stories that have passed down for a few generations. The south Bronx, Fordham, Woodlawn, east Bronx, upper east side, midtown east, rockaway, morningside heights, Chelsea, you name it, all have significant spots in my and my family's history. I guess it just feels like home. There is a special something too when you know your parents, grandparents, and great grandparents walked the same blocks as you and when you even know some great stories about those blocks.
Eat a snickers...you get grumpy when you are hungry
When you go back, make sure you tell everyone how much you hated your experience. I need rents to drop.
Let me guess, you're staying in Times Square and hang out in midtown with an occasional trip to meatpacking. 🙄
Also Chicago is a bit murdery for my taste
Wait so let me get this straight. You didn't like the crowds at the train station/airport so you don't like the entirety of NYC? Literally nobody likes the crowds in those places. Do you think New Yorkers just like hanging out in Penn Station?? 😂😂 but agreed with @S1 on rent 💸
Chicago? Have a seat, your city's a frozen tundra 9 months of the year and half the population tries to convince themselves they're considered New York's rival
What gave it away? My pleasant and welcoming demeanor to random insults?
Cosmopolitan, advanced cities aren't for most people
You have to know what you're doing to enjoy it..
I am a bit hangry right now...
Lol P1, you overestimate me. Made it to the train station, stopped at the office for 1 minute and just decided to just head to the airport because I physically could not stand being there.
It's not always love at first sight. Takes time to fall in the love with the best city in the world
Yes, please do the entirety of a city based on a train station and by a minute spent on one block. 🙄
Lolz at P2 and AT1. You know Chicago is the best city in the world, right? All the perks, way less weird smells and nicer people
Yea Penn station is gross. Also people saying all cosmopolitan cities are like this have clearly not lived in Singapore. #cityofthefuture
I've been to NYC a few times, mostly for work at first. Stayed around Times Square/office area and HATED it. Like it was the worst. Then went there for a 3 day weekend for vacation and enjoyed t a bit more. It's not as bad once you're out of the center. I like to visit but never in a million years would move there. I like the slow pace and manners of the south

Lol @ "all the perks"
