Standard. Takes a few days at most usually. As long as your résumé and LinkedIn match your actual work history and you have no other issues like a criminal record you’ll be fine.
Agree with SVP1. Fairly routine. The only caveat is companies or departments that do substantial business with the government. I have seen them be a little stricter on criminal and drug tests.
Background checks are pretty standard. I gather they're actually a pretty big industry. Unless you've gone bankrupt or you're a felon you probably don't have much to worry about.
Standard for all corporate hires and many/most law firms do them now too. Criminal history and credit/bankruptcy issues are the main things being looked at, along with any inconsistencies in your reported job and educational history.
