Hi All,
I have 7 years of experience in total in SAP Integration technology and I have been offered C2 manager position with Capgemini with a package of 30.5 LPA.
Is it good to join? Can I still contribute technically at C2 role? Or would it be pure managerial role? Also please let me know how much variable pay would be paid at this role? I have around 2.8L variable per year as a part of the package.
Any pointers will be highly appreciated Capgemini

@producer No harm as long as you are ok that you might lose the opp. Since you haven’t started yet though you do have room to negotiate terms, especially if scope of work has not been confirmed. There are a number of things you could do to get a better deal (limit your availability, and if need more the rate is higher; working hours at x rate, outside those hours is y rate; you have another project coming through so for the first few weeks or months the rate is x but if the project goes over it will be y, etc.)
I’m not totally sure if it’s legal or not, so can’t say to that point. But since they’ve asked and you’ve said, it’s already out there. They’re continuing to consider you based on a budget they have and that you fit into it (and I’m sure among other things like your skills and experience), so best at this point to make the best out of the situation and minimize how long you work at this lower rate. Alternatively you could suggest a different fee format altogether (which you calculate to be a better rate), so it just changes the direction of how you discuss the fees. Get creative, but I would say it’s annoying to have a freelancer or vendor come back with a significantly higher rate after already stating one
@PM1 good to know!
Though it sounds is that @Producer accidentally offered their current rate as what they wanted, not that they were asked their previous rate.
You might need to bite the bullet. Hope you were clear about your capacity, even if hourly. Then at least you can minimize how much you work at this lower rate.
At least it’s a gig. You’ll get to move on and take it for good learning
Which state are you in? They shouldn't have asked... Maybe you can go back and let them know you were caught off guard by them asking you an illegal question..
@PM1 NYC
@Client services.... hrs will fluctuate but sound like it’ll be 3-4 days a week.
I still have one more interview with another team member. I’ll see how the final convo goes with The hiring head, if I sense an opening I’ll shoot my shot. Worst thing she could say is no right?
Yes it's illegal http://www1.nyc.gov/site/cchr/media/salary-history.page
Thanks @client services. Yeah I thought about the budget angle. I just got the next round of interviews set so if all goes well I’ll see if they have some wiggle room to go up a bit. If not I’ll eat it. It’s a cool project and I’m ready to move on from my current spot. Lesson learned.
