lol whenever questions like this come up no one answers them they just sic on HOW DID YOU DO IT???
First behavioral: you need to prep your stories extensively and most candidates skimp here--it's actually a large portion of the interview and where most fail. For McKinsey this means a very deep dive into a few experiences where you need to be able of offer a 360 perspective. Casing wise: get casebooks (Wharton, Ross and Tuck are good) and practice them with strategy consultants beyond the resources offered by the firms. Case in Point and the rest of those are crap and their canned frameworks make you look robotic. Think about the case like you are planning the work streams for the project (key Q's, hypotheses, etc.) and have an educated business discussion.
Couple of things you can do to start off:
1. Grab hold of a current/former employee or wait for a 🐟 from these companies to help you here
2. Grab hold of a friend with an MBA and get access to case books and keep solving them. There are quite a few great case books (HBS, GSB, Sloan, Kellog)
3. Now tell us how you got the call
From what I know, CIP is ok but not great. Getting a lot of repetition is important. I know LOMS is great but I'm too cheap to drop $300 on interview prep. That's my .02
For the love of God OP what's your specialty
The linked in premium works?
Firmsconsulting.com
The consukting offer
Really good....breezed thru interviews. Then i got to the end and realized that i didnt want to travel and ended up here.
If the cost is too high...hit their youtube channel.
Also hit ip their podcast channel for insights
What's your specialty
Case study materials on mckinseys wesite. At a minimum, it will give you a look into what they think is important in problem solving
Recommend LOMS, to at least learn how to speak like mbb
Thanks everyone. My specialty is Strategy and I currently work for S&. They both reached out to me within a couple of days - seems like luck more than anything. I've gotten my hands on LOMS, a couple of case books, and I may check out The Consulting Offer as well. Aside from that, I'll brush up on the upfront behavioral piece as Bain1 mentioned.
How did you go about putting in your application? Referral or online application?
Are you post MBA
One was an online application and the other contacted me via LinkedIn. I would be an experienced hire with no MBA but prior consulting experience.
What company are you currently with?
Sorry no one is really answering your question OP. I too am always curious about the method of you getting it but I'll wait until you get your answer fulfilled.
^MBA case books is a great rec. I also think LOMS is worth it for the chance of getting into MBB
^ Probably strategy what else?
Good job OP I have my first exp hire interview coming up with BCG as well
Wide category at big4, ass hat k1
Ok K1, annihilate the ass hat tag by letting us know how you got that interview.
