I would think it depends on your skillset. Design is a subjective field and one where there's no standardized curriculum. Just because you're from IIT, doesn't guarantee a higher pay.
Did you study UI UX from IIT?
If yes, then your concern makes sense as 16 does sounds low.
If you studied some general courses like mechanical, civil or any of the other courses, then boss your IIT tag is redundant. Right? You've decided to switch your line. it comes with the understanding that IIT has become just a piece of paper.
I've met designers with 8+years' experience at 8~10 LPA bracket. and I've also met designers with 2+ experience in the 15~20 LPA bracket. Only advice I have is for you to focus on your portfolio.
UX D2 - yes . I know. I kind of self sabotaged my career by being lazy and not working hard at all. I worked like a dumb donkey- absolutely directionless

Maybe a bit low considering IIT and 4 years.
How much should it be?
Is this your first company or switch in between?
Then I dont think its low
A master degree in product design doesn’t ensure a higher package. For your years of experience you’re not too far from what others earn in the field of UX. Those higher packages that you see is mostly offered by either startups or FAANG or alike companies even to folk with less experience, the downside to joining startups sometimes is there isn’t enough learning but you can always try for product based companies for better pay and learning. If you’re looking for validation regarding what you’re paid, well it’s close to what others get with same yoe.
