You only move to PIF if the comp makes you financially independent at age 40-45 or lets you retire 15-20 years earlier than current plan. That way you can return to Europe at 45, follow your passion, work at a start up, or what ever else that keeps you happy without having to work full time. 15% on gross = 80% on net, prob 50% jump on disposable income given higher living costs. Not worth it. I wouldn’t move for anything less than 300% on disposable.

Why would you compare gross salaries though? The difference net can be 2x+. Other than that, perhaps not worth moving if you like your job / environment in London
Yeah the net is about 2x but slightly higher cost in Saudi. I should have added that I hate living in London and do not particularly like my job. But worried about coming back to Europe in few years.

Has “career ending” a positive or negative connotation?
We all need to end our career - better to do it earlier with more money in the bank account no?

Do a linkedin search and see how many people have come back from the desert to good jobs in Europe…
PIF is one of the largest SWF, and whether it marks the end of your career really depends on what you achieve and the impact you make.
