Is a UVA MBA worth the time if you want to get to an industry leading company (Google, JPMorgan, McKinsey) ? Coming from D, I would think it wouldn't necessarily change the chances of getting in for the same line of work. Then, all things being equal, would it help if trying to change roles/job functions. Do the fish here concur? Is there also something to be said about using it to jump salary here?

I've worked for 2 of the 3 you mentioned with a lesser MBA than UVA, and did a career change. I would say it's definitely worth it.

Thanks for the response!

What level are you now and how much do you make? What practice/work are you in? What are your career aspirations and what do you want to do?

UVA is a solid B School and brand so would open the doors, rest is up to you. Would a higher ranked school open more doors, of course, but you are trading off the time and extra effort and your ability to get there

I don’t think an MBA is worth it for you now. You will sense the need for an MBA yourself when you’re older. Coming to ability get a job in big tech or MBB - your chances are as good (or as bad) right now. Just start applying networking etc

That's what my onboarding partner said too. Thanks for the input!

Yeah it's absolutely worth it (full time, not EMBA). UVA's employment stats are outstanding and they're by far the best program in the broader DC area. They've also greatly upped the amount of grads they send to McKinsey since their dean came over from there.

Very good nugget about the Dean!
