It’s an odd middle ground. Pay and prestige probably similar to a T2 but the model is very, very different in terms of small teams, seniors do modeling, etc, eat what you kill, etc. growing rapidly, poaching smart people, also took on a ton of debt apparently (unverified FYI) to fuel that growth. Not a bad place by any means, but different.
AP is certainly not a eat what you kill shop. It is simply a far more profitable firm than Kearney, with a far better growth trajectory at least in the US.

Does it... matter?
How would you know your self worth without anyone telling you ????
I’ve always thought of OW, LEK, and AT Kearney as the core T2, and I guess that would maybe make AlixPartners a boutique. But then it looks like AlixPartners is roughly the same size or slightly larger than LEK, so that doesn’t really make sense. Not sure where I’m going with other than to say... maybe? Who knows??
Are you referring to the US or global? The last time I checked LEK and AP were about the same size (~2,6k employees) but considerably smaller than Kearney (~4k employees) or OW (~5,5k employees)
From a prestige point of view they are T2 (ie same level as Kearney, LEK, OW)

Definitely not a boutique by size, maybe by focus?
As mentioned above our approach to the work is somewhat different from the rest. Happy to answer any questions about what it’s been like for me.
What’s constitutes a boutique vs a tier?
Size - breadth of services - diversity of industries.
It's a high-end T2 firm, both in terms of pay and prestige. By growing its global presence (mainly in Asia) and a couple of service areas, it has the potential to become T1 within the next 10 years. Especially because they're far ahead in their turnaround offering than MBB.
