Is it viewed as “not good” to go back to my alma mater for MBA? It’s a top 40 business school and got me into B4 consulting easily. School has strong recruiting presence in the region I want and I have a full ride for their FT program. Appreciate any thoughts!

Sounds like you know what you want and that your alma mater can get you there without any serious cost. I’d say go for it.

like

Appreciate it!!

I'd aim higher and use your full ride as a back pocket to negotiate financial assistance at other schools.

Also going to a new school can diversify your network - both locations and people wise - plus give a new perspective / experience which are all big reasons foe getting an MBA.

like

I didn’t think much about the diversifying part, thank you for bringing it up!

I would advise going to another school in general just to be able to tap into two alumni networks. You already have that network so not as much value add

like

Didn’t think of it like this, thanks :)

Typically I would say go to a different school and get a different experience. Hard to argue with a full ride with good placement in your desired region, but what about your desired career? If you’re already in B4 consulting and seem happy with that, what is your career goal post-mba? That should largely determine whether or not it’s for you.

Burned out in current role. 10-plus years post-MBA experience in Corp Fin role unable to move up to Director due to lack of "scope" - limited to no opps. Currently, work 40-50 hours week (minimal to no weekends) and earn ~250 TC. Work day is "intense" - many quick turnaround projects from task to task.

Is it worth shopping around? Can I get promo to Director level at another Tech company, earn more and still maintain same level of hours (limited weekend work)? Less intense days possible?

Hi fishes,

I received an offer from big 4 with 60% hike. My managers wants to retain and I asked them to match if you want me to be retained.
Now I got a call from GPM yesterday. He used harsh words like "being greedy" "selfish" etc and offered me 30% in the end.
I politely declined but he asked me to reconsider as he said "it would be unfair for the org for you to leave so soon."

Let me know a proper response.

Also what do you think of this behavior by GPM?

Have you been in a similar situation? Is it awkard? How to handle it after joining?

PS: If you are wondering, I do not have a Big 4 or consulting experience while they have it.
