Hi Londoners ,
Moving in from outside UK.
Looking out for some areas in west / NW London where one can live with an infant on max 1400£ rental while requiring one partner to travel to Central occasionally for work and the other person 3 days a week to LHR.
Some Qns:
1) Will 1 Bedroom be too cramped for the infant to grow up? Should I raise budget?
2) I prefer being in family /childcare friendly areas. Had Harrow, Acton in mind . Are they good for my budget or any other suggestions?

Got a random email from a supposed Amazon recruiter for a SDE position (which is not at all a fit). The email is amazon.com domain and there are no red flags in the body but it doesn't feel like an Amazon recruiter due to the tacky signature, etc. Has anyone seen this kind of cold-calling from FAANG recruiter?

Gold may be worth it (rental car insurance, pre-check/global entry), but either way you still only get the points you'd get if you simply signed up for MR. For MR you need to change at least $9K just to break even. For Gold (~$140) and Platinum (~$500) you'll need to look at the perks to see how they play into your value calculation. Probably not worth it if you don't travel at all.
Also, as a traveller I don't use many features of the Platinum card, as I fly mostly nonstop and ideally arrive at the airport 45 minutes before the flight so I walk through security and sit down on the plane. No time for lounges (the big Platinum perk). International travel might be different, as there often is a layover at a hub prior to the international segment. So for me (~$200K/yr charges, 100% travel), MR paid off, but I didn't need Platinum.
Gift cards and travel get you $0.01/point. Amazon or similar are around $0.007/point. So stick to what makes most sense when cashing those points in.
DD1 thank you! This is very helpful!
Wait DD1 - gold gets you global entry?! Thought that was only a platinum benefit
It's worth it if you keep losing things after you buy them. Purchase protection is god sent for me
How does the lounge thing work? Every time I try to get into a United lounge by getting out my platinum card they say I need to buy a day pass....
United lounges aren't part of the network. You need a club pass or appropriate ticket to get into those.
Yeah, United left the program to push their own credit card more. Delta still lets you in but you can't bring guests anymore. I've only been to Centurion lounge in SF and Mexico City. I also subscribe to the "walk on the plane" philosophy when budgeting travel time.
P1, here's the gold corp card benefits. Yes, Global Entry/Pre Check are included in gold. Not for personal gold, though, it seems: https://business.americanexpress.com/us/corporate-cards/corporate-gold-card
