Is EA and CPA compensated the same (tax manager position)? I had option to just took EA couple years ago but I did CPA because I thought an CPA would be compensated more, and easier to get promoted. I am still glad I got my CPA license But looks like nowadays more and more firm are open to EA and not necessarily to offer less salary for EA. Thoughts?

When the market gets tighter and your competing for a new job, the CPA wins over an EA.

I understand the chase for paper is real. Naturally, everyone wants more money. But my advice is just to take a step back and consider which one is better for your overall growth in the long run, besides money. Surely, there are certain skills that you’ve learned while gunning for the CPA that you wouldn’t have gotten with EA. Take a step back and just be proud of investing in your own growth. You deserve that.

It’s a marathon, not a race. Ultimately, if you aren’t good at what you do, people will figure that out asap.

Totally get you. I think you’re better off touting your experiences, work product, and technical skills over a certification. No disrespect, there are a lot of morons that have a CPA. 🙂(or EA, or JD, or bar license).

To be honest the content for REG and the EA exams are very very similar. So if it's a tax position I can understand salaries may be comparable although I would give CPA the edge. Its more prestigious, wider scope, more recognized. But yes lots os managers even senior managers only have EA.

Several of my managers and supervisors are EAs and do not have their CPAs.

Does CPA now have any actual advantages over EA in tax field?

You may be limited trying to make partner as EA but I’m not sure

Hello fellow HR pros! I really need your opinions on HR certifications. I am deciding between PHR and SHRM-cp. I have read just about all there is online comparing the two and can not decide. My heart is telling me PHR, my mother in law (an HRBP) is telling me to go with SHRM, as it’s more widely recognized, more established and a larger network in general. I work for a 350~ company who is growing rapidly through M&A. Passions/interests are compliance, strategic vision, M&A, branding and culture
