I just feel like one of the biggest gray areas about B4 consulting is that it's sooooo easy to move around internally when really leaders make it extremely difficult to change areas or offerings.
If you’re on a product it’s not too hard to switch from one workstream to another but it’s still hard to switch products/divisions altogether
I have a friend at Facebook who said it’s very easy, but he’s new.
I have a friend at Facebook and she says it’s harder to internally move than it is to be hired from the onset. She’s been there 3 years now. I’m sure it all depends on perspective and where exactly you are in the org. Idk enough details to share more.
If you're switching teams but same role it's easy but if you're trying to switch ladders (eg bizops to PM) it can be challenging
Helpful, thanks!
Seems pretty easy where I work as long as the difference in skill set between roles isn’t too big. I switched between product lines and functional roles simply by asking.
If there’s too much of a skill gap between your current role and desired role then most managers are open to giving you a trial run in the new role. If everything looks good then you can kick off the transfer process which usually is a round of interviews. My friend at amazon says the process is similar there too.
