Is it ever time to start looking for jobs with much higher salaries than you’re on or is it better to slowly creep your way up the higher wages?

Have you seen the layoff reports recently? You take what you can get and hunker down.

This is grim but unfortunately true.

Best way to increase your salary/earning potential is to seek jobs with higher pay. Job hopping for this in small increments will look like you're not worth a company's investment. Figure out what you want to do long term and seek roles with equal to higher pay to help get you the skill set you need.

I stayed at the same company with no room to ever negotiate compensation for 10+ years now. My salary doubled finally by year 11. I'm now moving on to the next step and I just increased my salary by 40%. As someone above said. Make a calculated move if you are focused on career progression and overall earning potential.

like

Yeah I always thought this was better, just didn’t know if people had managed it by staying at the same place.

If you’re willing to take a risk sure, but make sure the risk is calculated

I think I need to figure that one out!

There is nothing wrong with making the jump if you are prepared for the additional responsibilities it involves. With that being said, this is not the market I would be taking any kind of risks in. You don't want to be the new, high-paid employee at a time where layoffs are happening by the thousands.

Yeah now might not be the best time, maybe I’ll hold out.

If you meet the requirements and think you have a reasonable chance at getting the offer, go for it. At worst you'll be out the time it took you to submit an application and maybe attend an interview.

Right on. Nothing bad will come of it. Might as well give it a try.

I always look passively

Hey fishes, recently got an offer of 245k plus a bonus, but no specificity and at least 3% cost of living annual raise. My current job I make 150k plus a 20% bonus and an annual cost of living raise anywhere from 2-3.5%. Have been in my current position about a year. Things have been a bit bumpy (not a me issue) I have a new supervisor and was recently given 7 direct reports (I had zero before). The new position while comes with a significant raise is a move to California. Any thoughts?

I’m interviewing for a marketing manager role at a company based in SF. I’m genuinely excited about the role and the company but we’ve yet to discuss salary. I expect to be asked at some point, but my research has given me a VERY broad range. So I’m here to do a bit more research. I’ve got 5 very relevant years of experience and will have an associate manager directly reporting to me. Are there any marketers out there who can share their salaries in similar regions and experience levels?

I’m interviewing with a startup and the range has a 40k difference from the lowest to highest point. It’s also pre-seed and comes with equity, and health, 401k benefits. It’s a director of sales role so I would eventually be recruiting and managing a team along with building the processes and strategy. What would you consider a fair compensation package? If they offer me something on the lower end of the range, is it still appropriate to counter with an offer that is over their stated range?
