Is it safe to purchase a CPO car remotely without a test drive? The flight ticket is very expensive and I don’t have any friends in that city.

Shipping car to your door is $600-$1000 situation. Worst case scenario lemon laws apply and use the CPO to go get anything fixed.

like

And shipping is closer to $2/mi these days

Your main risk will be price versus condition, where you could find yourself paying more for the car than had you seen certain imperfections in person. I wouldn't worry about the vehicle beimg misrepresented or mechanically nsound though.

You can always look up a reputable mechanic in the area and ask them to give it a look over. Usually folks will do that for a few hundred bucks.

like

Not sure the dealer allows a “look over” in mechanics store…I can double check but all dealers I talked to before won’t

Absolutely I’ve purchased a daily driver for 25,000 and high-end sports car for 65,000 the same way
The key is speaking to the dealer getting all the photos and video that you want of the vehicle get a pre-purchased inspection from that car brand dealer if it’s not the one you’re already working with

like

CPO does not guarantee anything. I purchase a CPO car that turned out to have had the entire front end sheet metal replaced and painted, only discovered when it started to all chip off. Lesson learned.

What are you buying? Why the distance? Rarity, smoking deal, etc? Deets will help.

BMW. Much cheaper (I’m living in a HCOL city) + exact trim I want.

Typically for around $200-300 you can get a local mechanic to do a Pre-Purchase Inspection (PPI). It’s a drop in the bucket compared to the purchase price, and boots on the ground is always better than online pictures

Thank you! I’m considering PPI as well. But most dealers only allow onsite inspections - no uplift rack thing. Do you think it’s still worth the check?

A HR question I really want to understand. ISRS HR quoted a podcast "The not so great resignation" saying 70% regret leaving and many want to go back to old employer. If this really the case the employee likely left due to higher pay at the new company. If they want to boomerang back they will likely come back at even a higher rate than they left the new company for. So getting double raise when they boomeranged. Isn't it unbeneficial, why not just give employee a 7% raise in the first place?

Will be in the market for a car in a month or so - narrowed down to Mazda CX 50 Turbo but the BMW X3 is only around $5k more compared to the Mazda Turbo trim I liked. Buy/lease now or defer to Q1-2023?

My car broke (engine seized, 10y old). I am interested in 530i ($62k price), however 3year lease is $1,000+ monthly (with $5k down). Monthly lesse payment is 50% more than bmw advertised offers (“south FL dealers are not participating in the program”)

Q to car gurus/experts- should I defer purchase/lease for 6 months? My logic, the impending recession will reduce demand and we will go back to more balanced market (lower prices with negotiation).

Alright auto fishes, I’m in the market for a entry level luxury car. Open to used or a lease. I don’t plan to use it as a daily driver, live in an HCOL. Only restriction is that I’d like to keep my monthly costs at no more than $600-$700/month (including insurance, financing / fees, etc; have a parking spot already). Doesn’t have to be a European badge. Thoughts?

I own a 1973 Chevy nova and and a 1988 Dodge ramcharger. Eventually I want to put a 6.6L duramax in the nova, and make it into a sleeper/fun weekend car, restomod the interior for comfort, convenience and tech etc. Then I want to put a Cummins in the Ramcharger and make it into kind of an overland/back country truck that I can still take down the road to get to the back country. Also restomod it for comfort, convenience and tech. Thoughts ?
