It’s definitely worth considering. Online applications probably all look alike and you’re just another name. Reaching out directly is a great way to make a personal connection and show that you're genuinely interested. It’s also probably a good opportunity to learn more about the school's needs and if they’re a good fit for you.
Sign up to substitute teacher in all the districts you would like a position. Subs are greatly needed every day. Then you can decide what schools you may prefer, and when an opening arises, the teachers and administrators will recognize your abilities and want to hire you!
Good work!
Go to edjoin and look there. I don't think it would be worthwhile to check in on a lot of places. In most cases you'd get a clerk or something, and they may be not in the know.
Agreed. Go to EDJOIN.org. Set up an account if you don’t already have one. This is what my district and every district I know uses. It’s interesting to look at openings in different states. I don’t think it makes sense to go in person in most cases. To stand out, customize the intro/cover letter to each district and job opening (connect to something on their website). Add a link to a video introduction, a book you wrote, or something else to showcase your talent.
If you’re qualified in math, I know of an opening.
Did you do any student teaching? If you finished your masters you must have some sort of network you can rely on. If you're really starting from zero, apply to school districts via their web sites and see how it goes.
This is an old method, but I would actually go into the building. When I was a young teacher, and teaching was hard to get into, I would go into the building and talk with the principals. Because of this, I got a long term sub position and then moved right in to a permanent position.
