depends if there are future prospects in the firm. if you’re going to be “demoted” in title initially but have clear progression potential, 1 year won’t make a difference in the grand scheme of your career. if no progression, then i imagine more difficult going back into where you were
It's quite a small firm, I know that there is progression in general and they talked about there being lots of opportunities to grow, but I didn't ask explicitly how long they might expect someone to be in a specific role. A question for next round I think (if I get it). Thanks
I would focus on the role / responsibilities more than the title. E.g. managing projects, winning work, Etc.
I have seen Senior Consultant roles that are more like Principals, and some that are like graduate / Jr Analyst.
Most of industry and recruiters know this, so main focus is on what are you doing, years of experience, and salary when moving.
If company has better reputation too this can help your future prospects.
You'd be surprised, about recruiters. Early in my career I went from "senior manager" to "senior associate" and took a significant raise in the process. My inbounds went from director/head of level to mid-level.
Maybe I should have taken a garbo director role somewhere instead of a stronger senior associate role, maybe it would have paid off, or maybe not.
for context, doing something similar, and this is how i balanced it internally with myself

No. You’ll find yourself priced out of the market.
