Personal choice - I would prefer a garage as I really don’t have time to clean my car in the morning after snow storms
My current house doesn’t have a garage and we’ve had no problems. Conversely my old house did have a garage and had multiple break ins. I think it’s more about the area than anything else
You can get covers for your car or build a shelter over the space in the future if it's important to you. But vast majority of houses in the city don't have covered garages and the cars are fine.

You can build an awning-type shelter for your car. This was extremely common in the 50s and 60s and I still see a lot of houses all around the Golden Horseshoe that have this.
A good amount of houses in Toronto don't even have driveways.. you have to park on the street. A garage is a luxury, not a deal breaker. A snowstorm like the one we just had doesn't happen often. You can manage with normal amounts of snow.
