In a word, yes. My office turned down a lot of the federal lawyers who fled when Trump took over for that very reason. We could only pay about 60% of what they were getting before. Other offices in my area who hired those lawyers saw the leave in 6 months to take better paying jobs. So that office wasted 6 months trying to train those lawyers on local procedures only to have to start over with somebody new.
Never hire a lawyer who is overqualified. They are either not truly overqualified or, if they are overqualified, they will leave.
Good candidates get jobs in any economy. Be a good job candidate.
Yes, it absolutely is. The only potential way around it is if the candidate explains why they are willing to do the job at that specific firm. Either they are asking for too much, or this will just be a pit stop to another job.
It’s also about room to grow. We are hiring for a junior role right now, with the idea that we can stagger experience levels in the department and allow people opportunities for learning and promotion on different schedules. We are looking for 4-8 years experience and the number of resumes I’m getting that are 20+ is wild. I don’t think any of them will be happy long term with this work load or this pay structure, it’s just that the market sucks and they’re desperate for anything.
It sounds like you need someone closer to my background. I have 2 years of in-house contracts experience. I just wasn’t barred during.
