Is shiplap (like on a fireplace with electric insert) going out of style? Redoing fireplace and wondering whether to do that or something more timeless?

I think it depends where you are. If you’re in a coastal area like our cape cod home I’d say it’s still very much the going look.

Whereas I think it is gone, not going, out of style.

If not, the traditional chimney, then go with gas if you have the option

I’ve been with my bf for 18 months and we have not said ‘I love you’ to one another. I keep hearing about how the best/healthiest relationships are a slow burn, you’re friends first, grow to love each other, etc. I’ve never been in a relationship as emotionally slow as this one. It feels like we are friends who sleep together. I can’t tell if it’s healthy or if we just have no emotional spark. Idk... I feel like wanting romance is not a bad thing, right?

Any downside to buying a 1bed 170k starter house instead of paying 1.5k in rent for a couple of years? Living with parents and thinking of getting a new place post covid.

I'm able to buy the house all cash or at least 50% down (credit is low) and assuming closing costs are not that big a deal at this price point. If my math is correct then buying comes out to be better in this situation but I've never owned any RE before so wondering what else I might be missing.

I recently bought my 1st home in TX. I want to get into real estate and eventually own/rent out multiple homes. Are there any good recommendations/tips on books/articles/websites that others have used to get started?

I've read about HELOC and cash out refinance to get a 2nd home but articles are so scattered that it gets confusing which is better in terms of tax benefits and immediate costs, etc. Anything others have found helpful that summarized how to get started would be great!

My hope is to buy and rent out a apartment while also owning a house and house hacking that by renting part of it out. My uncle does this (he’s a realtor) and usually gets 2-3x return. Obviously there is huge risk because property prices can change a lot in 1-2 years, but at the same time the upside is hard to ignore.

Anyway I protect myself against the downside risk? (other than loosing my down payment)
