Does anyone have any insight into accounting roles at Amazon, particularly in the Arlington/DC area? An Amazon recruiter reached out about accounting roles, but the posts in this bowl are about Seattle. Trying to decide if the culture/wlb/pay is even worth looking into since it sounds like the interview process is intense. Base pay seemed pretty low in other posts, but they were a year old and for Seattle.

I’ve never met a person that regretted getting a CPA
The irony is there are already plenty of CPA’s i have worked with in both PA and industry via my clients that are garbage at their job. Its just a clear useless/dumb certification outside of being a manager in PA at this point.
I feel like in 10 years the CPA is going to be seen as a dead/useless certification universally and accounting as a profession is going to be disastrously short of people or dead itself.
The average person doesn’t understand accounting and couldn’t tell if you’re “good at your job” so the CPA is the measuring stick everyone outside of accounting uses.
Im likely hiring the one with the cpa when two candidates are presented
Depends on the position. All things being equal im taking the CPA. I went from a manager in B4 audit to a midsized shop to a large shop. At the midsize they wouldnt promote you to assistant controller without a CPA. Its not the case everywhere, but you can bet on your competition having their CPA while you don’t

If you don’t have the most basic accounting license, despite finishing a 4-5 year program, then I’m not hiring you
So what’s your excuse for not being able to pass a licensing exam for your profession? Intelligence? Or you’re lazy and can’t sit down and spend two hours a day to study. Pick your poison but stop making excuses for yourself.
