I would say it depends more on you, the person, and your relationship.
My close couple of friends at work stayed just as close and we all understood that there are certain topics we need to stay away from. Occasionally we had conversations distinguishing whether they are talking to me as a Partner or me as a friend.
For my broader circle - it was a mix. Some remained just as close, some did not.
That said, it is definitely much easier when you’re on the same level and you do have different responsibilities that you have to keep in mind. It also takes a bit of time to adjust to the change. But no, I don’t feel “friend lonely” at the top. The harder part of me was figuring out how to work with my new peers - took a couple of years to get comfortable and confident doing that.
Not a PPMD yet, but the dynamic with peers I used to call friends started to get weird once we’ve become senior managers. A lot of passive aggressiveness and some badmouthing behind my back. Then I’ve realized maybe we were never friends.
Def. Not the dynamic I've had as an SM at Deloitte. Quite the opposite amongst peers actually.
No
Glad to see this because I thought I was the only one
