You can find stimulating roles in industry and you can nearly always make a role stimulating if you're ambitious/self-directed. Another arena that may stimulate the brain is in a small/start-up business.
It's all what you make of it. I've lived in both. Industry can be more real, with humanistic experiences. Consulting is like reality TV. You're never really an expert. Simply trying to teach someone how to be a better swimmer doesn't make you a Phelps. I do t care which firm you are from. That's the reality peeps.
It depends
Depends on how your brain works. Personally industry killed my brain. So boring and uninspiring (people and work). For some people though, stability and predictability is good
Grass is greener where you water it
No
Yup. Industry internship- the A/C turned off in the building (Texas) at 4:59:35 and the office was EMPTY at 5p on the dot!!
Wait until the day you have a spouse and a few kids. Perspective will kick in then and you'll see work as a means to an end and not an end by itself. Perspective
Yes
You won't know unless you try it for yourself. Everyone is going to have an opinion on the matter based on their preference. Only you will know if it's a better fit for you.
So helpful....
I was bored out of my mind but leaving at 430/5 daily was nice
I wouldn't go into an industry job thinking that you're the smartest guy in the room. It may be more accurate to expect that there will simply be a broader range of intellect/drive. I can assure you that you'll run into qualified people where there is money/resources.
Why is the grass greener? Bc it's fertilized with BS
This might be hard to believe, but there is more than one industry. And some of them have different requirements for effort, hours, etc.
Yes. No doubt about it. I was never bored.
Director level and higher, probably. Lower than Director level, hell no.
Through my green glasses, it looks pretty nice over there
The grass is different on the other side.
It's all relative right? If you like leaving at 5pm and 2% salary increases with in many cases no bonus then I'd say go for it. In consulting you don't need a new job to get a decent raise or wait for someone to retire/get a new job to get promoted. You also have a much lower ceiling for earning potential. It all depends on what you want. I had a great Finance job in the city for a great organization and was bored out of my mind. Spent all day with no shoes on listening to podcasts.
