Is there any interesting exit ops for someone from Markets Operations? I’ve been in operations for 5 years, most of that time in a Prime Brokerage Market risk support team and now moved into risk and settlements space. My roles have all been very analytical, strategic and excel modelling heavy. Any one have any ideas of interesting exit ops? Open to anything really - just struggling to find a viable exit.

Have you ever considered supply chain management? It's a great line of work which doesn't get much recognition because it's not as popular a job as something like finance, marketing, or law. There is a bowl for that here, search for it and try joining if it interests you!

like

Wouldn’t be opposed to it. Is that like logistics and such or? I’m looking for something that’s interesting and well paid. Markets ops is basically worst of both world in finance, long hours and worse pay that FO guys. So I’m looking for as challenging a role, but better paid 😂

Depends how good you are at analytics.

Could always move into more project oriented data/analytics (think 80% of a data scientist).

Those teams always need a lot more business knowledge. Where are you based?

like

Yeah basically 😂 No my excel is pretty good, but if I can’t figure something out google is my best friend. Honestly you’d be surprised how many people just don’t bother checking it on google and say they can’t do it! Funnily enough I’m doing the Alteryx course internally at the moment actually. Comp would be anything north of £90/100k - currently a senior associate going for vp next year.

Will defo dm you, your team sounds pretty interesting!

What do you want to do? I’m doing the same but less years. Though my goal is more into front office, not PB, but still looking

My goal is still move to FO, but with how many years I have I think I’ve lost that opportunity for now. It’s possible as an analyst, and then you kind of lose that option when you get more experienced as an associate, but then as a VP with solid business knowledge the door opens a bit again. So I’m just in that awkward stage now. Would have loved to go to PB FO but that was still a couple years off. Honestly don’t have a team in mind - just right now the hours that I’m doing aren’t inline with the pay. So looking for a better balance. Ideally the same hours for more pay, rather than less hours for the same pay 😂
