Sounds like regular ol’ teething to me. Babies’ teeth have to push through bone before they push through gum. This means our babies can feel it loooong before we can see anything. This process can take several weeks. Also, it’s quite common for babies to have a bit of ear pain when teething, so the pulling at the ears is likely related if there’s no fluids in his ears or high fever accompanying it. Provide lots of love, teethers (freeze them first if he likes it or put them in the fridge so they aren’t as cold), and patience! ☺️
Okay thank you so much! Can you tell this is my first rodeo 😊 is there anything you would recommend to soothe him? Like clove oil or numbing gel or granules? I don’t know what’s reliable.
Dealing with teething this week too, and homemade popsicles have been working well with my 1.5 year old. Greek yogurt in a popsicle mold, freeze for a few hours.
Teething can start as early as three months. It’s a rough time. Freeze wet washcloths or frozen fruit like peach slices in those net teethers,
Rolling = drooling*
Yes, seconding the above. The most painful part for them is before you can see a tooth breaking through. When I finally see a tooth I feel so relieved because the hardest part is over. Wet washcloths and popsicles should help!
@SVP1 that’s so sweet! Thanks for replying.
Sounds like that wonderful awful thing called teething. You won’t see teeth cut through for a little while .. & you’re like WTF until you see them and then you’re like “oh, this all makes sense now” lol
Could be self soothing but pulling on the ears could be them telling you their ears are off/hurting.. like maybe an ear infection.. I’d message Peds to see what they think.
We give my 12 month old Motrin typically once in the morning and once before bed in the days he’s teething. He’s cut about 3 rounds of teeth and there’s usually 2-3 days before they cut where I can tell he’s not his usual happy self. The Motrin helps give him some relief.
I second the motrin comment. I understand you don’t want to give it to them all the time, but it would be good to see if you notice a major difference in crankiness once the motrin kicks in. Then you’ll know it’s a teething pain thing and not a developmental shift (pretty sure it’s teething but would definitely check with doc about the ears). My first child popped all her teeth out quick, it felt like my second child was teething for literally two years. Each tooth taking forever to break through. Just know, this too shall pass!
