Actually I’m beyond gifts, and cash. Settled for a non traditional Christmas and just cook and eat with everyone as a family instead of expecting something from someone. Just enjoy the time we have together. The great part was everyone was happy. No phones at the table. Eye to eye contact. Real family bonding. Laugh and enjoy stories of old.
Gift cards are an option, but so is asking people if there is anything they would like or need. Is there something they've mentioned throughout the year? To me, when someone returns a gift, it means the gift giver doesn't know the recipient well, or doesn't listen to them.

I prefer cash too but most people want to get a gift - I also try to tell everyone not to exchange Xmas presents if they can because it ends up in the donation pile anyway…. But alas, old habits die hard….
This is why gift cards are my chosen way to go! You don't know what someone needs/wants or has already bought for themselves, unless you live with them. With a gift card they get exactly what they want or need.
The answer is always cash. The green stuff is good anywhere. I got two gift cards from relatives that are for places I never patronize. So I'm stuck having to go there to get something I really don't want. At least with pictures of dead presidents I could get whatever I want anywhere. While cash still exists we should use it!
I am so picky and hate keeping clutter just for sentimental reasons. I'm a notorious gift returner, lol. I would LOVE if my family gave me cash or gift cards instead.
Simple thing my family does. No presents just food and family time. If you want something just go buy it yourself.
I'd prefer cash or gift cards if someone wants to get me something but is unsure, I always appreciate it though. The only thing I hate is unless they buy a store gift card, the Visa, Mastercard, American Express ones you can use anywhere cost like $8 at the store I used to work at just to activate them. It's so annoying.

Cash is best although I saw an idea on tiktok the other day... Instead of stressing and buying everyone presents why not just buy your own! Then it's something you want, and you can have fun explaining it to everyone too 😂

Yep! Unless you know for sure exactly what the person wants
That is all that I do now. I have gotten to where I just don't know what people would want any more so assuming they would use the gift card, that's all I give now. It's not a gift from the heart but at least it says you are thinking about them.
