We can use basic physics to work it out by assuming the air in your studio behaves as an ideal gas at standard atmospheric pressure in an isobaric cooling process:
1) Recall the specific heat law Q=mc•delT where Q = heat added to a mass m to raise the temperature by delT and c is the specific heat of ambient air.
2) Assuming your studio is 500 sqft or approx 4,000 cubic feet. So m becomes density of air 0.0765 lb/ft3*4,000 cubic feet.
3) Assuming your desired comfort level is 72F, this means your delT is 6F or 258.7 Kelvin.
4) Dropping those in to Q=mc•delT gives you 0.0765 lb/ft3*4000 ft3*c*(78-72F) = 2,500 BTU
5) Now, a typical split air conditioner has a coefficient of performance e equivalent to around 80% (assuming it is EnergyStar rated LOL!) which means your energy consumption is Q/e = 3,125 BTU or 0.92 kWh.
6) Lastly, assuming your costs of electricity are around $0.15/kWh and your AC unit operates for 8 hours then multiplying across gives you a cost of $1.10 to maintain your studio at a temperature delta of 6F for a whole night.
Thank you, thank you

Somebody give this person a drink
Wtf turn ur ac on. Ur comfort is more important than a few dollars on your bill. Live a little.
Geez. What’s RSM paying these days?

My math is not as advanced as Guidehouse (I still don’t know what you said) but here is a simple formula:
Studio Apt = Minimum
8 hours of A/C = Minimum
Your Cheapness = Maximum
Total Est Cost = $1
One night? Probably like $10 or less
How did you pass your case interview?
Way less than 10, probably 3-5
So $1.10 for the night. Like i said live a little 🤣
I have my A/C blasting around the clock and my electricity bill is usually around $40/mo in a 1 bdrm apt
Just open the fridge!

If you are that worried about your bill, call your utility and set up a levelized billing plan. Don’t risk your health over a bill
Wait 78F is hot? 81F is cool enough for me.

Cover your windows with curtains! Back at my apartment my room would get SO HOT when I left the blinds open
But also... turn on the AC hahah it’s too hot
Every degree increase you should be accounted for. My super once advised me to leave it on at 72 and just in the evenings reduce to 65 but each time you switch it off and turn it on at 90 degrees heat is when your bill surges.
