It seems Big Tech companies have been having lots of layoffs over the past few years. Any reason why this keeps happening?

I think in a lot of situations it's just a matter of companies always rebalancing their workforce. But there also seems to be a general trend in recent years of companies wanting to aggressively cut costs, and layoffs are an obvious way of doing that. I would have thought the contagion of layoffs would have stopped by now. But I guess the uncertainty of the incoming administration's policies aren't helping any in that regard.

I really think a lot of it is due to just trying to cut costs wherever possible and lay offs are a great way of doing that.

Regarding the semi industry, it's still in a trough. Layoffs boost margins, awaiting the upturn.
