Why is everyone so obsessed with TikTok? Aren’t there more pressing issues in the world?
Yo people have become addicted and brainwashed, it’s crazy
Wow lol you are grossly unaware of how many people have been getting their news. It is one of the pressing issues regarding free speech/censorship in the current climate. Also, Congress wasting their time on passing this ban when our data is already being sold heavily and is accessible through other platforms related to China. Going after TikTok is a red herring and also a vessel for Trump to capitulate through... oh and a way for Meta stock to go up since they're likely going to acquire TT and guess who Congress has lots of stock in??
He can’t, by law, issue an executive order reinstating the app except where there is the imminent prospect of it being sold.
Are we a nation of laws? Or does all of that go out the window tomorrow and we have 4 years of just doing whatever he wants, congress and the courts be dammed?
Enjoy the next 4 years of sanity kiddos, adults are back in charge
To me it’s more than not having access to some silly app anymore, it’s about the choice to do so. Privacy concerns are so valid, but that isn’t what was being addressed and after watching the congress question Tiktok, facebook, it’s kind of boggling they think they have any idea what they are doing. Are we going to ban everything or get to the root of the issues?
Red note ftw
America does own a portion, it’s called its employees that have ownership in the company.
Technically some US employees do have a small interest in ByteDance through equity shares they cannot sell unless the company buys it back or goes public. But not in a way that has a meaningful influence on the company’s direction or management.
His executive order is going to be easily blocked once it is challenged because there has been no significant progress of a sale which is outlined in the actual law passed by Congress and ruled on by the Supreme Court.
