Additional Posts in Salary Negotiations
Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

Ehhh doesn’t hurt to learn it until it falls. I think it’s coming out that it’s not profitable and takes up entirely too much energy. My very uninformed opinion is that AI won’t be as dramatic of a disruption as we think.
I really hope so, it’s a scary prospect it getting really big.
The problem right now is that AI is a giant bubble and everyone knows it, but it's being used as an excuse to get rid of people all over the place by companies trying to cut costs and scare the remaining people into working insane hours. Adding to the mayhem are a lot of hucksters trying to figure out how to make a buck for themselves by profiting during this chaos. There's no possible way that this is going to end well, but it's not possible to figure out when this insanity is going to end or what the aftermath is going to be like. It feels like a lot of people are on a ship that they know is going to sink, but they're all trying to figure out how they're going to be the one on the lifeboat while everyone else is out of luck.
It’s crazy how we can all see the bubble about to pop yet people continue to do what they’re doing, it doesn’t make sense.
There have been some studies, like the one from MIT that got a lot of attention a few months ago, indicating that AI is not the great solution people believe it to be. It's good to learn how to use it, but at this point I'm not sure it's anything to be worried about. Any job requiring human judgment is going to be difficult to replicate with a glorified web scraper.
Yeah I’m hoping it’s adopted in an automation way but isn’t viable in any other capacity.
