I've always been in the animal care industry from grooming, kennel technician, shelter med, now vet med. I'm at my breaking point my mental and physical health can no longer do it no matter how much I love it. Any suggestions or recommendations on what I can do after only doing animal care for 15 years? Pandemic induced pressure & burnout. Is every agency bad at present? Desperate to move on before it kills me but worried it’s not diff anywhere else. Hearing people are off sick in lots of agencies.

Having an animal friend with cancer is not something easy. This year I have already had 24 animals that went to sleep in order to stop suffering. This is not easy for their families at all. It seems to me that the cancer stats in domestic animals are increasing, is this just me?

My favorite coworker is Max, he's a grizzled tomcat we tended to (and neutered, of course) after he was hit by a car, and he's lived at our vet clinic for almost 3 years. He makes everyone’s day and people stop in just to see him

How do you address pay discrepancies? I just found out a VT hired a year after me, with less experience, is making $2 more an hour. She was hired when they were desperate for staff which I’m guessing is why, but I’ve felt bitter ever since finding out.

I took 4 years off from being a vet assistant first to have my daughter, and then because I didn’t want to start working during a pandemic. I’ve been applying everywhere and I’m not getting a call. Bad luck? Or is the gap scaring them off?

I get that money is tight. But if you deny all diagnostic tests, please don’t get mad at me when we can’t figure out what’s wrong. Those tests are there for a reason.
