I've always been open with my team and allowed them the space to feel safe as well. However, I've been feeling like the work culture has gotten a little too casual and I don't know how to strike a balance. What are some things you all practice to ensure the line is never crossed??

I’m a third year litigator. The partner of my firm just started letting me go do trials, hearings, and depos by myself about 7 months ago. A judge I’ve only briefly appeared in front of 4 times has called my boss to compliment my work (they’ve known each other for years and go to the same gym, but my boss never appears in his court). Judge has asked me to go to lunch to “discuss” something, but what could it be? It’s making me nervous. What could it be about?

What do I do if I’ve only worked one job (the one I’m currently at) and another company is asking for references? I could do professors from college but not sure if that’s a good idea. I wish I could give my current manager’s contact but I don’t want her knowing :/

I have accepted an offer for the role of Director of Data Science & Analytics and I'll be working with old colleagues. I am very excited. I haven't given notice yet because I am waiting for the background check to complete, but my boss just asked me about traveling to a meeting in November. I start at the new job Oct 25. How do you deal with your “mentor” being threatened by your performance and gatekeeping information from you? Then turning around and giving you shit for not knowing things… but they don’t tell you anything and there is no way for you to know. My learning and development is being hindered and I’ve felt this for a long time, but coworker just confirmed this is the case. Now that I know I’m not “crazy” for thinking this, how should I approach this?

How do you call out a senior team for stealing your idea that you presented and wrote months after the project is done? I don’t want to be a dick, but these people are acting like they helped on something they didn’t help on, and I can’t wrap my head around ever doing something like that. I know getting credit for your work is important, how do you protect it from more senior teams? Do I just ask them why they’re doing it?

Witnessed ageism in a unusual way. I am a P, Male, 51
Client counterpart and I were discussing a Consultant and the client told me he didn’t want this guy because the consultant is in his 50s. I quietly told the client that cannot be a reason plus I am in my 50s and you should have seen the client back paddle with compliments for me. Just a weird situation. Ageism is real.
