I’m a third year litigator. The partner of my firm just started letting me go do trials, hearings, and depos by myself about 7 months ago. A judge I’ve only briefly appeared in front of 4 times has called my boss to compliment my work (they’ve known each other for years and go to the same gym, but my boss never appears in his court). Judge has asked me to go to lunch to “discuss” something, but what could it be? It’s making me nervous. What could it be about?

Probably asking you if you’d want to clerk

Doesn’t matter- that’s still more significant than many people are handling at your year. Be proud of the work you do!

As others have suggested, whatever it is, it surely isn’t anything bad.

I’d definitely accept the invitation. Even if it’s nothing more than a “getting-to-know-you” business lunch, it should be worthwhile. Establishing good working relationships with judges and other lawyers tends to pay off down the road.

Several years ago, I had an informal lunch with the Chief Justice of our state’s supreme court, followed by a behind-the-scenes visit to places like the robing room, the justices’ conference room where they discussed cases, etc. It didn’t lead to anything like a clerkship offer, but it was still a great experience.

That is so cool! I’m incredibly jealous. There’s a robing room?? Very fancy. I just assumed they threw them on in chambers. That’s so neat. Thanks for sharing!

There’s no reason you have to put up with a job you hate. I spent many years working in a toxic environment with a boss who gossiped and lead through fear. He wasn’t really much of a leader but basically a foreman. And he could make my existence miserable. I admit that it wasn’t easy to find another job but the bottom line is: trust your guts. If you feel something is wrong it’s because it probably is. Don’t second guess yourself. Look for options and and fight for your mental health.

How do you cope when your employer rapidly descends into chaos from the top down? Today is my 2yr anniversary with this company. In the past 6mos, they have repeatedly changed directions / goals, pushing out several supportive and productive managers in favor of a single chauvinist overlord who makes HR violations daily and does no actual work. HR denies every complaint made against him and he retaliates to the point of firing people. Very hostile. How do I survive until I find my next gig?

Found out today my toxic manager bad mouthed me to an HR rep in a different division. This correlated with his bad management and abusive behavior. Luckily the new manager I’ll soon be working with dismissed it. Her words of wisdom “reflect on what you could have done differently, you can only control your actions”. How does that resonate for you? Have you had similar experiences?

I just picked up a new freelance gig after coming out (again 😮‍💨) but professionally and they're really respecting my pronouns! They did a whole thing where they're having people add their pronouns to their email signature too 🥰

They never make a deal out of it and if they mess up they correct and move right along. They're from the Midwest and some of the team is older too so its really nice 😅

Just wanted to share the good news and say it very much is possible to have people respect them☺️

I'm a cashier. We just got a new manager, and she's making things really hard for us. She starts work at 4:30am and leaves around 2:30pm, but she still expects us to stay until 6pm and work on the weekends! She gives us really long shifts and doesn't give us much time for breaks. And when we ask her about it, she gets mad.

I'm worried that if I speak up, she'll make my life even harder. I don't want to lose my job because of this—do you guys have any advice?

I am embarking on egg freezing soon and I got some unpleasant news today after a scan. I had a scan 2 months ago and my follicle count was slightly low then. As I was on birth control at the time, I had to go off it and repeat the scan two months later. In the 2nd scan we found that I only had 6 follicles and that we would only be able to get 4-6 eggs per cycle. I am 36 and I decided to start this process now more just as backup. I am getting a little impatient with a recruiter who feels like she has been ghosting me. I need to make another decision with a company by tomorrow but have not heard back from this other company since I’ve interviewed last Monday. I updated her on my timeline and she hasn’t emailed me back. I have her number from when she initially called me. Would it be bad to just give her a call?

Hi Fishes,

I got interviewed at infosys two days back.
When can I expect to hear back from them.
Also all the questions that were asked to me were written coding questions(Write block of code) none were verbal.I could write all answers but none was 100% correct.

At last I asked the interviewer about feedback as in where was I wrong. He said at couple of places and he explained me where was I wrong.

Do you all think I will be rejected?
