1. They do not want to pay.
2, Older? Experienced? Not only are you seen as a potential threat, you get the ageism pie right in the face.
My husband is 55 & was told by multiple recruiters to only go back 15 years on his resume and remove the year he graduated from college. Ageism is real in hiring. He ended up keeping 20 years of work experience bc Disney was on his resume & he wanted to show what he achieved there. 6 months & over 200 resumes he is employed but making about 50k less than his previous job.
First thank you for your service. Second, I need more information about the kinds of roles you are applying to/want and a review of your resume to give you specific feedback.
I wonder if any of this would help …
1) Just get into one of the systems. Expand the roles you are considering. It’s much easier to transfer within the system than to get that first job. So just get in.
2) There is a skill mismatch or perception of one between the job description (JD) and your resume. HR is clueless. For every line on the job posting, if you did that activity or have that experience take what is written on the JD and put it word for word on your resume. Repeat as many times as possible.
3) If you are bilingual and have medical terminology/product/operations knowledge make sure you showcase that. It unlocks additional doors.
4) Military people can be unfairly preconceived as inflexible and hierarchical. Really stress the collaboration and teams you led.
5) I feel like you might be a perfect fit for the Supply Chain leading the Materials Management function in the hospital. Logistics. Crew of par techs (often 20-40 early career folks). Problem solving. Then you meet EVERYONE because you lead the team that goes everywhere to put away supplies. So you could be the mayor of the facility if you wanted to be … and then transfer to another department.
Just a thought. Hope this helps.
Make sure your resume is not aging you.
It sounds like you have management experience. Your degrees are in Sports Management and you saying you can't go wrong going into the medical field. What are you applying for in out of the military?
