I’ve been applying to in-house roles for a few months but haven’t gotten much traction - midlevel ECVC at big law firm. For those who successfully transitioned, what made the difference? Resume tweaks? Networking? Deal sheet or cover letter? Thanks in advance!

Networking, which for me didn’t lead to job offers but did help a lot with interviews

Are you specifically going for roles transferable to your experience? (basically, in-house doing venture & growth investments)

If so, these positions are extremely competitive given there are very few companies that invest enough for a dedicated EC/VC atty.

Best advise I can give is optimize your resume as much as you can for the industry and job posting – that will reliably get you in the door if you know what you're doing.

Hard part is winning the process. I've been dinged at the end of ~10 panel interviews since I've gone for in-house, and 6-7 of them, the ultimate hire was someone the hiring manager worked with previously.

Im interested in applying for the Barclays technology analyst summer internship role. However, the fear of being rejected is impeding me to actually go for it. I would really appreciate if someone from a similar role can have a look at my resume. It would be great if you could provide me with a referral too. Completely understand if that’s not in the scope :) any means of help is appreciated!

I interviewed at KPMG on 11/14 and got a verbal offer the next day but since then waiting to hear from them. Been following up continuously but the partners are not replying it seems. In the meanwhile i have an offer from BT offering 90k for 4 yrs of experience which seems to be fair. I am just unsure whether to accept the offer as I was waiting for kpmg reply as I want B4 on my resume which apparently is a big deal. Is BT also good on resume for future employers ??

Has anyone ever asked to renegotiate their salary after starting a job? I’m 2 months into my new job and I have far more responsibilities than what I was told. It’s a lot different than what was relayed in the posting and during the interviews. Additionally, they hired my counter part in as a senior manager which is at least $30k more than what I make. My peer has more experience so I expect that but I feel that I should be paid more, however I don’t want to leave a bad impression… any advice?

So I recently accepted a 12 month contract-hire position at a much larger company. Pay is more than 50% of my salary, and benefits/401k is covered by the recruiting agency. I was confident in my now manager, who told me directly this will become a permanent role. However, i’m nervous about where the economy is going to be within the next year, and after getting a few linked in messages to interview for full time positions, I’m starting to second guess myself. Thoughts? Advice?

6th year - over 2000 hours, great review last year, this year they said will not promote me. They will do a mid year review early next year and if still no good, will discuss “transition” plan. HR said I have until next spring. Sounds like I can stay on payroll for another 7-8 months? Is it real? I have a lot of financial obligations so want to know the worst scenario

I’m in big law and on the cusp of making the jump to in-house. It sounds like the company I just interviewed with is getting ready to make me an offer. How did current in-house attorneys find their positions? I am currently in big law with 3 years of experience. Seems that most recruiters can only help me lateral to other big law firms.

For in-house counsel roles, does firm prestige matter? Does it matter as much as law school credentials? Assuming a mid-level corporate associate seeking to go in-house.
