I've been confused for the last few months. Trying to see what I could've done differently. In my opinion nothing. I worked in my assigned building for 33 days. (60 days total with the company) Day 1 of entering the building I received resignation notices from tenured employees. I asked why they were leaving and received generic responses. I began replacing those who put their notices in. A week after their departure I was let go because I didn't ask them to stay. Received a severance. Thoughts?

They wanted someone to blame and you were the closest.

Never experienced this before in my life!! So unfortunate.

Why weren't any of these "tenured" employees considered for promotion?

like

They were already at a "higher level" for their skill set. Nothing was left other than management. They were also all paid really well according to the company's new budget. From my understanding prior to coming into the building those were the ones they wanted to push out anyway! It's definitely politics

You probably started making significant changes early on thus creating a fear of change and making people feel like they are walking on egg shells.

Yeah... I came in under new management. The old company was bought out by the folks who hired me.

From where I'm sitting, it sounds like this was a bigger game playing out around you, and unfortunately, you got caught in the crossfire. A mass exodus and then blaming you for not stopping it? That's just not fair. You played the hand you were dealt, replacing those who left as instructed. They just needed to play the blame game.

I agree! I know I over compensated the day I walked in. I didn't stress out too much. But I still have my moments like this is so messed up!! (Because I'm still unemployed)

Sounds like something was going on already and it wouldn't have been different if it was you or someone else. Sorry that happened to you.

Let’s talk speed reading. I’m a slow reader and listened to a podcast recently on speed reading. I’m intrigued. Who here speed reads? How did you learn those skills, and what types of documents do you speed read in practice? I do mostly litigation and am thinking that speed reading would help with research but maybe not things like doc review where you need to review for both responsiveness and privilege.

I’m an application analyst in the midwest for a small CAH. I was hired into this position at $27.15/hr and have now worked here for a year. I’m curious how my salary compares with others working in the midwest. My primary responsibilities are systems/HIE integrations using Meditech, HL7 transfer, SQL report writing, and user administration (just to name a few).

I have a new employee that started last Monday, unfortunately it’s not going to work out. Long story, but we’re fairly certain the individual is using Meth and appears to have started/restarted fairly recently. I work with physicians, so it’s a consensus. We have to terminate employment, but what ethical obligation do we have? Two young children at home and no spouse. This is weighing heavily on us.

Background: I’ve been in my position for 1 yr. I have 20 yrs military experience, bachelors in Business. I took an entry level $15/hour job to get my foot in the door. I’m actively looking for a promotion. But 44 miles plus gas & business casual clothing on $15/hour is killing me.
